Seth Godin, marketer extraordinaire, posted something on his blog today that we found interesting: How can dentists stay in consumers’ minds even when those consumers don’t have a toothache? In other words, how do you “build engagement among members of the population that aren’t in pain . . . so that when my toothache shows up you’re the obvious choice?”

This, of course, is a challenge faced by many of your brands and services (sorry, dentists – you’re not the only ones): staying on consumers’ minds even when they don’t need you. And to solve this dilemma, forward-thinking brands are turning to innovative and interruptive forms of marketing. Like the groundbreaking interactive window display from Scion shown in the video below. Interruption creates impact, impact encourages experience, experience leads to engagement, engagement encourages brand loyalty.

Is your brand engaging consumers through unique branded experiences?

We saw this Flor™ display at Cooler Planet, one of our favorite eco-friendly boutiques in Chicago. Flor™ offers consumers a line of modular carpet tiles available in a wide variety of colors, patterns and textures, empowering consumers to have creative control over the largest canvas in their homes: the floor.

And while Flor™ is dedicated to making a positive design impact in consumers’ homes, they are also dedicated to eliminating the company’s negative impact on the Earth, through energy efficient production, using renewable raw materials and helping consumers recycle their old carpet tiles. So you can feel good about making your home look good.

We’ve been talking about the notion of Co-Creation – inviting consumers to actively participate in your brand experience – for several years now, ever since we saw it starting to build steam on our early Global Safari trips. But far from being an old idea, brands keep finding new ways to dimensionalize this trend.

K-Y® is taking Co-Create – and, presumably, consumers’ love lives – to a whole new level with YOURS+MINE™ personal lubricant. Billed as “the first intimacy enhancing product for couples,” YOURS+MINE™ promises an exciting sensation for him, a thrilling one for her, and an amazing reaction when the two combine. Because, as Johnson & Johnson put it, “it takes two to create a magical encounter.”

Wise words – and the very reason why Co-Create is such a powerful idea.

Does your brand encourage consumers to participate in your brand experience? Does it help consumers connect with each other?
